Olmsted Falls 28, Amherst 21

Olmsted Falls withstood an inspired Amherst team and hung to win 28-21. You can listen to the replay online. The Bulldogs are still undefeated in Southwestern Conference play (5-0, overall 6-2) while the Comets are winless in conference play (0-5, overall 1-7).

Amherst was smelling upset when leading 21-20, DB Stephen Hause intercepted Olmsted Falls quarterback Brennan Laird giving the Comets the ball at their own 44 with 6:56 left in the game. Unfortunately for the Comets, a bad snap on 3rd and 1 resulted in a 13 yard loss.

From there Laird took over.
  • Amherst punted and a 22-yard return by Laird set up the Bulldogs on a short field.
  • Laird directed an 8-play 48 yard drive which he was 5-5 for 46 yards passing.
  • Called his own number and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 2-yard sneak.
  • Called his own number again and converted the 2-point conversion.
  • Amherst got the ball at their own 16. Comets completed a pass to Tom Gula but it was Laird who stripped the ball from the receiver. The Bulldogs recovered and ran out the clock.
Laird finished the game 23-33-309 passing with a TD, an interception and completions to six different receivers. Amherst quarterback Eric Lamb had a breakout game with 29-44-296 passing to seven different receivers with two touchdowns to Tray Waite who finished the game with 10 catches for 73 yards.
