Elyria Catholic at Rocky River tonight

I will be covering high school football tonight in Rocky River, Ohio as the Pirates host the Elyria Catholic Panthers. You can tune in to 1380 AM or listen online (replay will be available online as well).

It's the final weekend of football in West Shore Conference history. Although both Elyria Catholic and Rocky River won't be competing for the conference title, there is still a lot to play for tonight as both teams have the opportunity to punch their ticket to the play-offs.

Elyria Catholic

EC is currently the #7 seed in Ohio Division 5, Region 16 so they need to win in order to keep their spot. The Panthers last made the post-season in 2010.

Rocky River

The Pirates are currently on the outside looking in as the #10th seed in Ohio Division 3, Region 8 so they need to win tonight and get help in order to play in week 11 for the first time since 2009.

Both teams have terrific quarterbacks: Jake Kuchta of EC and Matt Lowry of Rocky River. The game could boil down to Elyria Catholic's running attack. Their running back Justin Rankin has 940 yards rushing, 15 catches receiving and 17 total touchdowns.

Elyria Catholic joined the West Shore Conference in 2011 and the home team has won every football meeting. The Panthers hold a 2-1 advantage.
  • 2013: at Elyria Catholic 53, Rocky River 28
  • 2012: at Rocky River 19, Elyria Catholic 0
  • 2011: at Elyria Catholic 44, Rocky River 6
Although it's the last game between the two teams as West Shore Conference members, both Elyria Catholic and Rocky River will next year join the Great Lake Conference.
