I will be covering high school football tonight at
Columbia High School as the Raiders host the
Wellington Dukes. You can tune in to 1320 AM or
listen online (replay will be available online as well). I'll be working with play-by-play announcer Bob Karlovec and sideline reporter Darrin Goats.
This is believed to be the first ever meeting between the two teams. The game features some premier players in Lorain County.
For 1-2
Wellington, they are lead by senior RB/LB Clay Wright. Last year, he received Division IV All-Ohio third-team honors as a LB recording 142 tackles (66 solo) along with an interception. He also had 677 yards rushing and lead the team with 182 yards receiving. In 2011, he already has 200 yards rushing and 33 tackles. Joining Wright in the Wellington backfield are a pair of sophomore tailbacks Chase Bealer and Quinton Dendinger along with junior quarterback Dylan Weidrick.
In their first win of the season last week against Edison, the Dukes rushed for over 300 yards.
For 2-1
Columbia, they are led by 4th year starting quarterback John Banyasz. Not only does he hold all of the school passing records, he holds a 3.8 GPA and is a leader on and off the field. This year is 37-60 passing for 704 yards, 5 TDs, & INT. He also has added defense to his duties as he plays corner on the single receiver side of the formation. The Raiders are coming off a 27-12 win over Chippewa in which Banyasz was 16-21 295 passing, 3 TDs in 2.5 quarters.
This week marks the first week of conference play, both teams are in the Patriot Athletic Conference. Wellington is in the Stars division while Columbia is the defending Stripes division Champion.
