Lorain County Football Team Rankings

Three weeks of high school football are complete. Six schools are looking for their first win while only two are still undefeated.

Get your updated school schedules and standings. Here are my team rankings with their overall and conference records:
  1. Midview 3-0, 0-0 – The Middies have came up huge against Elyria last week. Cody Callaway-to-Eric Lauer is the most lethal passing combination in the county.

  2. Avon Lake 2-1, 0-0 – When was the last time a Dave Dlugosz team blew a 24-point halftime lead in losing in double overtime against Massillon Jackson. North Olmsted is next. Be very afraid Eagles.

  3. Elyria 2-1, 0-0 – Loss to Midview will bring the Pioneers back to earth. Still a lot of talent at the skills positions and defense to not have a successful season.

  4. Avon 2-1, 0-0 – The Eagles suspended ten players for the first two games of the season. All of them are back in time for West Shore Conference play.

  5. Elyria Catholic 2-1, 0-0 – The talent level drops off from the top 4 teams. The Panthers have a terrific quarterback in junior Jeremy Holley. The 2nd year playing in the WSC should be easier this time around.

  6. Amherst 2-1, 0-0 – The Comets may have taken a large step forward with their dominating win over Clearview. Amherst fortunes will rest on the arm of QB Eric Lamb.

  7. Columbia 2-1, 0-0 – Here is where the rankings get real tough. Could be a surprise team in 2012. Starting the year 2-1 for the 4th straight season. Battling through injuries the last two weeks in defeating South Central and Chippewa. They will have a better measuring stick this week vs. Wellington.

  8. Clearview 2-1, 0-0 – The Clippers have convincing wins over Vermilion and John Marshall but disaster hit against Amherst last week. Not only was Clearview physically dominated, they lost their quarterback Roger Engle. If he is unable to return this season, that means the Clips will need huge performances from running backs Chad Anderson and Anthony Alston to win games.

  9. Oberlin 3-0, 0-0 – Tough to put Division 5 teams against some of the bigger schools in the area. However, 3-0 is still 3-0. With winnable games coming up against Brookside and Firelands, could this be a special year for the Phoenix?

  10. Lorain 0-3, 0-0 – One of four winless teams that it's tough to get a read on because of a very difficult non-conference schedule. Facing Midview, Avon Lake and Avon is a nightmare for anyone.

  11. North Ridgeville 0-3, 0-0 – An 8-2 team a year ago have losses so far against 3-0 Westlake, 2-1 Maple Hts. and 3-0 North Olmsted.

  12. Black River 0-3, 0-0 – Haven't won a game yet but they have Andrew Vaughn and Austin Phillips who both ran for over 1200 yards last year.

  13. Wellington 0-3, 0-0 – Another team with a lot of talent and a tough first three games of the year against Norwayne, Avon and Edison.

  14. Keystone 1-2, 0-0 – The Wildcats are the only team in the Patriot Athletic Conference to have a won a game this year. Opened the season with a win over arch-rival Monroeville at the new Wildcat Stadium.

  15. Vermilion 1-2, 0-0 – First win of the Rob Duray era was last week against arch-rival Firelands. Junior Running back Mike Repko had 263 yard, 4 touchdown performance for the Sailors.

  16. Firelands 0-3, 0-0 – The Falcons graduated most of the players from last year's 10-0 team. This year we've seen a more typical start of the season for Firelands.

  17. Brookside 0-3, 0-0 - A long year ahead in Sheffield. Team is very young and have had injuries already. The Cardinals have been outscored 140-22 in their three losses against Oak Harbor, Rhodes and Margaretta.
