Game story
Amherst took an early 6-0 lead on a Jordan Irvin 10-yard touchdown run, but Midview answered back with a drive of it’s own, scoring on a 9-yard TD pass from Cody Callaway to Eric Lauer. The extra-point by Brendon Matcham put the Middies ahead, 7-6, a lead they never relinquished. Callaway hit Lauer again on a 27-yard TD pass in the second quarter to give the Middies a 14-6 lead. Midview added another touchdown when Callaway hit Zac Wilson on a 26-yard TD pass that upped the lead to 21-6. Amherst scored in the fourth quarter on a Derek Eibon 5-yard TD run.

Starting at quarterback in his first varsity game, Elyria Catholic's Conner Riddell didn’t fare so well. Riddell, who replaced Jeremy Holley after Holley injured his leg in Week 4, attempted 28 passes, but only completed eight of them for 69 yards. The Panthers couldn't get their rushing game going either, being held to 77 yards in the game.

The Falcons scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Joe Hyster to Jacob Parker in the second quarter and led 7-0 at halftime. Firelands added another score on a Hyster 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put the Falcons up, 14-0. The TD was set up on a 67-yard run by Hyster. Hyster led the Falcons with 158 yards rushing on 22 carries. Keystone cut the deficit to a touchdown on a 43-yard TD pass from Kobe Whalen to C.J. Conrad at the 4:26 mark of the fourth quarter. The Wildcats stopped the Falcons on their next possession and got the ball back and had a chance for a game-tying drive, but on a fourth-down-and-10 play, Whalen’s pass fell incomplete. “We’re starting to come into our own,” Firelands coach Mike Passerrello said. “The kids never quit and our defense never gave up.” Hyster completed 9 of 17 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball 26 times for 123 yards and another touchdown. On defense, Hyster recorded 16 total tackles (11 solo, five assisted and two for a loss) and had two pass break ups.

"The duo of Marcus Gunter and C.J. Conrad equalled Keystone's second win last Friday over Brooklyn. Conrad was the recipient of three touchdown passes from Gunter, including the game-winner. Down 6-0 in the second quarter, Conrad caught a 10-yard TD pass from Gunter to give the Wildcats a lead they never relinquished. After a Kendle Stiner 3-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown put Keystone up 14-6 at halftime, Conrad caught the next two TD passes from Gunter, a 55-yarder and a 24-yarder that put Keystone up 27-13 heading into the fourth quarter.

Falcons up, 14-0. Keystone cut the deficit to a touchdown on a 43-yard TD pass from Kobe Whalen to C.J. Conrad at the 4:26 mark of the fourth quarter. Week 4: Eddie Williamson, Lorain,
Threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns on 17 of 25 passing in Lorain's 51-12 win over Warrensville Heights. He also rushed for a touchdown to help the Titans to their first win of the season. Through four games this season Williamson has completed 48 of 89 passes for 764 yards and nine touchdowns.

Week 5: Won 36-27 vs. Shaw
Game story
Lorain High found itself down 21-6 to Lake Erie League foe Shaw last Friday, before coming back to outscore the Cardinals, 30-6 and win its second straight game of the season. It all started on the ensuing kickoff after Shaw took a 21-6 lead. Jordan Altpater took the kickoff and went 86 yards to cut the deficit and give the momentum to the Titans. After Eddie Williamson scored to cut the deficit to five, the Titans recorded a safety, to only trail by three at halftime.

Lutheran West

Week 1: Won 29-7 at Firelands

After falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter, the Longhorns bounced back with a 92-yard kickoff return by Izaak Zrnich to tie the game. Lutheran West took the lead on a field goal, making the score 10-7 going into halftime. The Longhorns added to their lead midway through the third quarter on a touchdown pass from Greg Kunze to Brad Warnkin to make it 16-7, and never looked back.
"We were able to do a very good job running the ball," Longhorns head coach Dave Stupka said. “Senior tailback Chris Ranc, behind a great effort by our offensive line, running backs and receivers, was able to carry the ball 21 times, for 144 yards and two touchdowns. I’d also like to credit our defense. They were outstanding all night.

The Mustangs scored 24 unanswered points after the Rangers scored early on a safety to send the Rangers to their second loss of the season.

Lakewood jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead on North Ridgeville, but almost lost the game in the second half. North Ridgeville’s Jonah Bowden missed an extra-point kick in the fourth quarter that would’ve tied the game after Jason Lucas had just scored on a 19-yard TD run with minutes to play. Paul Sonego also helped the almost comeback with a pair of second-half touchdowns. Sonego finished with 66 yards on 17 carries and Lucas had 69 yards on six carries.

Oberlin made its fans sweat out its season opener last Friday, barely squeaking out a 25-24 victory over Lutheran East. Marvin Jackson’s fumble recovery and 12-yard return for a touchdown tied the game at 24 with 1:17 to play. Kicker Sam Weiss gave Oberlin the one-point win with his extra-point kick. The game-winning fumble recovery was ironic after the Phoenix had fumbled five times in the game, including 38 seconds before their game-winning fumble recovery.

Kalif Townsel rushed for 255 yards and three touchdowns in Oberlin's 34-20 win over Richmond Heights. He carried the ball 32 times and three of those carries went for 29 yards or more, including runs of 44 and 55 yards. Townsel had 126 yards rushing in the first half alone as the Phoenix rushed for 358 yards as a team for the game.

Open Door lost its first ever varsity football game last Friday, falling to Danbury, 63-20. Danny Stintsman led the Patriots with 73 yards rushing on 13 carries, including an 8-yard TD run. He also completed 14 of 26 passes for 126 yards, including an 8-yard TD pass to Jacob Lowe. Troy Atwood also scored for Open Door on a 30-yard touchdown run.
