No RG3, what's next

After weeks of speculating whether the Cleveland Browns will move up in the NFL Draft in order to select Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, we have our answer.

The Washington Redskins will acquire the #2 pick in April's draft from the St. Louis Rams in exchange for picks #6 and #39 in 2012 plus 2013 & 2014 1st Round selections. Cleveland's best trade proposal was #4, #22 and 2013 1st rounder.

Cleveland still has nine picks in the upcoming draft including #4, #22, #37. The Browns still have plenty of options at quarterback.

Stick with Colt McCoy

Had to believe he has been the starter for only 21 games in his NFL career – it's a small sample size to determine if he is a winner at the NFL level. The Browns desperately need to upgrade the talent on the offensive side of the ball so they can evaluate McCoy more accurately.

Free Agency

The big names on the market are Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn and Kyle Orton. Manning wants to play for a contender. Flynn is a big unknown. Orton's best days are behind him.

The next tier of quarterbacks is Chad Henne, Jason Campbell and Kevin Kolb (expected to be released by Arizona). All three are coming off injuries.

Flynn could easily fit into the Cleveland offense. Kolb was drafted by Cleveland General Manager Tom Heckert when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Picking up a veteran will (1) provide competition for Colt McCoy in training camp and (2) remove the pressure of having to get a QB in the NFL Draft.

Other QB in the Draft

After Griffin and Stanford's Andrew Luck, the next options are Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill and Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden.

Tannehill, who spent his first two seasons as a receiver with the Aggies, started only 19 games as a collegiate quarterback.

Before becoming Oklahoma State's quarterback, Weeden played minor-league baseball. He is 28 years old.

Unfortunately the next steps for Cleveland aren't clear. It is going to make the next few months very interesting.
