The Dukes defeated the Pirates for the first time since 2007 were led by junior QB/CB Dylan Weidrick who opened the game with a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown, the first of three picks thrown by Black River quarterback Dakota Kuntz that turned into touchdowns. Weidrick also was a perfect 5-5 with two touchdowns passing along with 54 yards rushing which included several 3rd conversions in the 2nd half to ice the game.
Senior running back Clay Wright chipped in 158 yards rushing on 20 carries with three touchdowns and a touchdown receiving at the end of the first half giving Wellington 35-21 lead going into the locker room. Black River's Andrew Vaughn had 181 yards rushing on 15 carries.
The game originally scheduled for Friday night was moved to Saturday evening to allowed the field one more day to dry after heavy rains.
