AIW Absolution 11

Results from Friday night's @aiwrestling #ABSO11 event at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Cleveland Ohio - all AIW wrestling blog posts.

This is the biggest show on the AIW calendar. The main event was AIW Absolute Champion Ethan Page defending the title against 2016 JT Lightning Invitational Tournament winner Josh Alexander and 2016 Gauntlet for Gold winner Josh Prohibition.

  1. DJ Zema Ion, Laredo Kid and Matt Cross (filling in for Banderlero) defeated Skayde Jr., Steve Pain (AIW debut) and Gringo Loko when Cross pinned Pain after landing the Shooting Star Press in a Lucha Trios match.

  2. Tim Donst pinned Raymond Rowe after hitting the Donstitution (Olympic slam from the top rope).

Up next was Frankie Flynn and a mystery co-star challenging B.J. Whitmer and The Duke. Eddie Kingston is revealed to be the mystery co-star which led to …

  3. Eddie Kingston and Frankie Flynn defeated The Duke and BJ Whitmer when Kingston pinned The Duke.

Afterward, Kingston complemented Flynn and gave the newcomer advice in his wrestling career.

  4. AIW Intense Champion Alex Daniels (with Gregory Iron and Veda Scott) defeated Cedric Alexander, Facade and AIW Superstar JERRY. Ray Lyn came to ringside to distract the referee appearing to help Jerry only to allow Daniels to hit Jerry with the title belt and scoring the pin.

Afterward, Jerry thanked the fans and announced his retirement from wrestling.

  5. Dick Justice (with Zeb Coulter) defeated Jock Samson (with Col. Robert Parker) in a Texas Death Match when Justice hip tossed Samson on a table full of thumbtacks and Samson was unable to answer the ten count.

    INTERMISSION

Up next was the AIW tag team championship match best of three falls between champion Hot Sauce Entertainment ("Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams and Tyson Dux) and To Infinity and Beyond (Colin Delaney & Cheech). Williams was introduced without his tag team partner saying travel issues prevented Dux from attending. Williams was ready to hand over the belts but Cheech and Delaney refused to accept them. Williams then offered an invitation to anyone in the back to come out and be his tag team partner. Dominic Garrini answered the challenge which led to ....

  6. To Infinity & Beyond defeated "Hot Sauce" Tracey Williams and Dominic Garrini when Cheech gave Williams a powerbomb off the top rope on to Garrini which allowed Delaney to score the pinfall.

  7. Louis Lyndon defeated Zack Sabre Jr. via dragon sleeper submission.

Up next was Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae vs. Ethan Carter III aka Derrick Bateman aka Michael Hutter and Maxine aka Karlee Perez aka Catrina. Gargano and LeRae are a real-life couple while Carter and Perez were a kayfabe couple in WWE NXT. Before things got underway, Carter challenged Gargano and LeRae to a series of NXT challenges hosted by Steve Guy. First Gargano and LeRae won a 'How Well Do You Know Each Other' game. Second, Perez cheated to defeat LeRae in an obstacle course. The last challenge was a hidden talent. Carter tried to make Perez disappear (taking a nod from Perez's Catrina character in Lucha Underground) and failed miserably. Gargano and LeRae attempted re-create the final scene from Dirty Dancing only to be attacked by Carter which led to ....

  8. Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae defeated Ethan Carter III and Karlee Perez when LeRae pinned Perez after a splash.

Afterward, Gargano finished the Dirty Dancing scene with LeRae. He thanked the crowd, hugged Eddie Kingston, re-created the final Dirty Dancing scene with Carter and thanked the crowd some more.

  9. Josh Prohibition pinned AIW Absolute Champion "All Ego" Ethan Page to win the title after a piledriver on the title belt in a triple threat match also involving Josh Alexander. Prohibition now joins DJZ as the only wrestlers to hold all three major AIW championships.

Afterward, the AIW locker room entered the ring to celebrate with Prohibition. While most of the wrestlers left the ring, Tim Donst stayed around to attack Prohibition. Donst grabbed the microphone and ripped the AIW fans for booing him and then told Prohibition he didn't deserve the AIW Absolute Championship and vowed to get the belt back.

HITS
Johnny Gargano Gargano is ready to get pushed big in WWE NXT so it was a matter of time before his AIW appearances would be over. The official send-off will be September 23 but tonight was just plain fun. Gargano has never been a promo guy or interacts much with fans but his mic work thanking the fans was heartfelt and looked genuine.

Tim Donst turns heel At some point, Donst grew out of favor with AIW fans. To some degree, the fans were right. Donst was due for some sort of a change: character, look, gear, manager/partner. Now with a heel turn on Josh Prohibition he is back interesting again.

Eddie Kingston/Frankie Flynn Flynn is a student in the AIW wrestling school, has a very unique gimmick as the Prince of Broadway and a growing fan base. They have been building toward a Frankie Flynn/The Duke showdown over the last several months. I liked the Kingston babyface turn and the post-match explanation on my he left, why he came back and why hang out with Flynn - it connects the dots. This works on a number of levels: (1) Flynn coming out on top is good for his character (2) Kingston now feuds with BJ Whitmer.

Alex Daniels Daniels is the best guy coming out of the AIW school.  He has been winning matches for the last year, he is the AIW Intense Champion, and now he has Greg Iron, Veda Scott and Ray Lyn in his camp.  Daniels is one of the more interesting guys on the AIW roster.

Upcoming shows Every show should have the fans leaving wanting more. AIW succeeded with this. I'm looking forward to storyline directions for (a) Johnny Gargano (b) Tim Donst and (c) the AIW Absolute title.

Who does Johnny Gargano wrestle in his last AIW show?
  • AIW Absolute Champion Josh Prohibition
  • MDogg20 Matt Cross
  • Gregory Iron
  • AIW Intense Champion Alex Daniels in a teacher vs. student match?

Who gets Josh Prohibitions' first defense?
  • Tim Donst
  • Ethan Page
  • Josh Alexander

MISSES
Donst vs. Rowe
Review before the show closing angle: This match was a Dud. Pure and simple. Where do I start? The wrong result, using a old finisher that hasn't been seen in a while, using a old finisher that hasn't been seen in a while and executing it poorly. I can't decide what was worse: the finish or the lack of fire shown by both guys. If you're a babyface wrestler and getting your tail kicked, how do you not get mad and explode on the other guy? The crowd booed at the end because this match sucked.

Review after the show closing angle: I feel a little better about this match.  Perhaps some of this was intentional.  If the goal was for both guys lay a turd of a match so Donst gets booed and makes his heel turn more effective then mission accomplished.

AIW Tag Teams The lack of tag teams in AIW were exposed this evening. The originally scheduled match was champions Hot Sauce Entertainment ("Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams and Tyson Dux) against To Infinity and Beyond (Colin Delaney & Cheech). This feud started last year at ABSO10 and has included title changes at KeepTheChange, GFTG11 and forgotaboutdre. This evening was supposed to be the blow-off match between the two teams. Now with Tyson Dux unable to attend the show and no other tag teams on the roster, it appears this feud will continue.

AIW: What's In The Basement Klopek?
6/17/2016 Mentor-On-The-Lake, Ohio  results courtesy of @OhioReport.

  1. AIW Superstar Jerry pinned Kaplan after a soccer kick to win a six-pack scramble match also including Dominic Garrini, Garrison King, Dr. Daniel C. Rockingham, and Joshua Singh

  2. Weird World ("Weird Body" Evan Adams and "World Wide" Alex Kellar) defeated BJ Whitmer and The Duke when Frankie Flynn’s music hits allowing Adams to pinned a distracted Duke.

Afterward, Whitmer and Duke beat down Weird World and Flynn challenges Whitmer and Duke to a tag match at Absolution 11.

  3. Shayna Baszler defeated Veda Scott (w/ Ray Lyn) by submission via rear naked choke.

  4. Bandolero and Laredo Kid defeated Golden Kid (replacing Skayde, Jr.) and El Gringo Loko when Bandolero hits a Moonsault on both opponents for the pinfall.

Out next was Brian Carson who cut a heel promo and issued an open challenge. "The Franchise" Shane Douglas answered which led to …

  5. Brian Carson pinned Shane Douglas with his feet on the ropes.

Afterward, Douglas addresses the crowd and paid tribute to deceased Triple Threat members: Bam Bam Bigelow and Chris Candido. He then ripped on WWE and put over AIW.

    INTERMISSION

  6. Facade pinned Eric Ryan (replacing Joey Janella) in a weapons-filled bloodbath after hitting an elbow drop from off the balcony.

  7. Ethan Carter III defeated Rex Brody after hitting the One Percenter. The finish was a tribute to past WWE wrestlers: EC3 hits an Ultimate Warrior-style gorilla press, Brody retaliates with an X-Pac “Bronco Buster", EC3 misses a People’s Elbow, Brody follows up with Stone Cold Stunner, Brody scores with a Randy Savage elbow and pin, EC3 kicks out and starts “hulking up.” Big finger point.Three punches followed by a boot to the face and leg drop, Brody kicks out, Referee Tom Dunn hits Brody with his “Dundertaker” chokeslam, EC3 “firing up the band” and hits a low Sweet Chin Music and a Batista Bomb followed by the One Percenter.

Afterward, EC3 challenges Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae to a mixed tag team match at Absolution 11. Carter will team with Maxine.

  8. Josh Prohibition defeated Sonjay Dutt after hitting the Drunken Driver.

  9. AIW Intense Champion Alex Daniels pinned DJ Zema Ion after hitting a driver in a triple threat match also including Flamita.
