AIW - Rulers of the World

Results from last week's @aiwrestling #RulersOfTheWorld event at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School in Cleveland Ohio - all AIW wrestling blog posts.

The main event was AIW Absolute Champion Nick Gage defending the title against three-time former champion Tim Donst.  The two wrestlers met for the first time at JLIT2015 which led to their match at ABSO10 with Donst emerging as the winner. Gage was incarcerated after that and left AIW.  He returned in 2017 attacking Donst after matches at ABSO12 and Cool as Ice.  Gage defeated Donst at HOE13 to win the title last month.

Originally scheduled was a meet-and-greet with former WWE Champion Sid Vicious before the show but Sid cancelled on the day of the event.

  1. "Filthy" Tom Lawlor pinned Louis Lyndon after hitting the Styles Clash.

Up next was a tag team match. Out first was The Young Studs. Then the music played for Mance Warner. Then the music played for Shawn Schultz. AC/DC's Money Talks played and out came the Duke which led to ….

  2. Duke World Order (Mance Warner & Shawn Schultz with The Duke) defeated The Young Studs (Eric Ryan and Bobby Beverly) when Warner pinned Ryan with a rollup and feet on the ropes.

Dedication Personified (Dr. Daniel C. Rockingham and Brian Carson) came out for a promo. DCR says we're going to make New Years Resolutions but keep none of them. Carson introduced Sid Vicious and out came Gregory Iron. Iron did a Sid impersonation and was interrupted by Dick Justice. Matthew Justice came out next. Ring announcer Steve Guy made the observation the babyface team consisted of Dick Justice and Matthew Justice and asked who is the 3rd member of the team which brought E-C-sid Justice aka Ethan Carter III wearing a blond wig which led to ....

  3. The Rulers of the World (Ethan Carter III (dressed like Sid Vicious), Dick Justice and Matthew Justice) defeated Gregory Iron (dressed like Sid Vicious) and Dedication Personified (Dr. Daniel C. Rockingham and Brian Carson) when Carter pinned Iron after delivering a powerbomb.

Next was the Tag Team Championship open challenge. To Infinity and Beyond was out first and the challenge was accepted by Swoggle and PB Smooth which led to ….

  4. PB Smooth and Swoggle defeated AIW Tag Team Champions To Infinity and Beyond (Colin Delaney and Cheech) to win the titles when Smooth pinned Cheech after hitting the Call the Coroner (sitdown chokeslam).

    INTERMISSION

  6. The Production (Frankie Flynn, Derek Director, Magnum CK and Colby Redd) defeated No Consequences (AJ Gray, Tre Lamar, Garrison King and Joshua Bishop) when Eddy Only dressed as a ring crew attendee distracted Gray allowing Flynn to roll him up for the win with his feet on the ropes.

  7. AIW Intense Champion Joey Janela pinned Jimmy Jacobs after a package piledriver on a stack of chairs in a No Disqualification match.

  8. "Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams defeated Eddie Kingston via referee stoppage when Jake Clemons ruled Kingston could not continue while locked in a crossface.

HITS
Duke World Order I love this new tag team. The Duke needed a new protégé since Mike Tolar left AIW and moved out of state. Mance Warner made his AIW debut a couple of months ago at Enter The 36 Cryonic Chambers and Shawn Schultz has been directionless since he was the runner up at both GFTG12 and JLIT2017. All of sudden The Duke is relevant again and Warner and Schultz are getting the rub.

to look like Sid Vicious

The two Sids This AIW show was dealt a major setback when Sid Vicious no-showed the event so leave it to AIW to make fun of the circumstance. The segment started off with DCR and Brian Carson cutting a great promo - something I'd like to see more of. Eventually Gregory Iron and Ethan Carter III came out dressed like Sid (including EC3 with a blond wig) and we have a match. Iron and EC3 even made light of the Sid Vicious / Arn Anderson incident. Just a lot of fun and some good laughs.

New Tag Team Champions Normally I don't like champions issuing open challenges because that usually means a cheap title change. What I liked here was the title change was totally unexpected. When the challenging team was Swoggle, a vertically challenged wrestler, and PB Smooth, an almost seven foot tall wrestler, this had the makings a comedy match. At no time did I think the challengers could win. Wrestling is at it's best when it's not predictable. If Sid Vicious made it to the event, I wonder if the challengers were supposed to Smooth and Sid. I wrote during my HOE13 review, the AIW tag team scene was getting boring. With the Duke World Order and Swoggle/Smooth, the things got more interesting.

Ethan Page vs. Dominic Garini This was match #2 in what appears to be a series of matches. The two guys wrestled a different match from the last time. Garrini still got a submission victory. I'm intrigued to see where this is going.

"Let's Go Hot Sauce" chant A little girl in the front row started a "Let's Go Hot Sauce" chant. The rest of the crowd clapped along and no one joined the chant. It was pretty cute. A couple of fans started a "Let’s go Eddie" chant and got booed. Now that's respect.

MISSES

Sid Vicious If you ever wondered why Sid was never a top guy in WWE, just listen to the phone call between him and AIW owner John Thorne.
  • Tells the promoter the night before he was coming
  • Doesn't get on the plane
  • Doesn't answer numerous calls by the promoter
  • Blames Donald Trump for not getting on the plane
  • Doesn't apologize to the promoter until the 7:36 mark of their phone call
Turned out Sid cancelled a 2010 appearance using a similar excuse. The more Sid talked the more he came across as a scumbag.

Joey Janela vs. Jimmy Jacobs I just couldn't get into this match. The violence was excessive, there was no logic behind it, I felt like I watching a cartoon and the coyote just keeps coming back. Jimmy Jacobs just made his return to AIW last month. For all I know, this is the first time Janela and Jacobs faced each other. I don't know why this was a no disqualification match with a bunch of chair shots - the booking didn't make sense.

The Production vs. No Consequences I like the Production. They're interesting, they're on a roll, the characters in this group are unique. Having said that, this was not their finest hour. No Consequences consists of AIW students who haven't distinguished themselves as of yet. AJ Gray does the Phoenix splash, Garrison King is better known as Gary ""the King"" Baller, Lamar and Bishop haven't stood out yet.

This match was cluster but not in a good way. After a couple of minutes of tag team wrestling, the match turned into one dive after another. In fact, every time I see the team of No Consequences, it turns into one dive after another. If every match has a dive and every match has multiple dives - it's nothing special. The Production is not blameless. My neighbor at the show felt Magnum CK woke up this morning and decided to do a bunch of dumb things. Magnum CK, a big guy, should not be doing dives. In fact, the entire Production should stay away from doing dives. The AJ Gary Phoenix splash is very impressive looking but the rest of the No Consequences group should figure out other ways to get over.

Nick Gage vs. Tim Donst These two met last month at HOE13 which was a giant street fight. This time around Donst wanted to make it a wrestling match - or at least he said so in a youtube video. I'm fine with that idea - give the audience something different. It turns out the execution was lacking. Nick Gage seemed too willingly to make it a wrestling match.

Then when Donst was invited to fight on the outside, he went to the outside to fight. Why would he do that? He is the heel challenger. He wanted a wrestling match. How is going to beat the champion on floor? This wasn't a falls count anywhere match. Again, the booking didn't make sense.

Music Here is my favorite theme music: Louis Lyndon (Ludacris "Rich & Flexin"), Tim Donst (Recluse "Heartjacker") Dr. Daniel C. Rockingham (The Who "Baba O'Riley"), Nick Gage (Metallica "Seek and Destroy"), The Duke (AC/DC "Money Talks") and Dick Justice (Police Academy theme). The entrance music for rest of the roster is just junk - a bunch of noise. When The Production comes out, what is that guy saying anyway? Hot Sauce Tracy Williams came out to Phil Collins/Phil Bailey "Easy Lover". What is up with that?

Show Organizers It's ten degrees outside, OPEN THE DOORS. Don't make the fans stand outside in bad weather. I'm sure there were plenty of talent getting to the school later than usual due to the weather. No excuses, get your act together, OPEN THE DOORS.
