HITS
DukeMoney vs. Weird World Experience AIW has done a good job of building credibility with these four teams. Given the way this match ended, I'm eager to see The Duke receive his eventual comeuppance.
Scott Steiner The crowd exploded like I've never seen before. Steiner is the most over star to come to AIW. He went through his catch phrases, gave us a little Steiner math and then gave a beat down to Dr. Dan. Just what the crowd wanted.
Donst vs. Janela This ladder match was amazing. A ton of crazy spots. I like the tease of Janela climbing on Donst's back while Donst was climbing the ladder - that would have been an innovative finish.
At one point, Donst was hanging from the title belt which was attached to a pipe hanging from the ceiling in the Mount Carmel gym. I wonder if someone tested that before hand to see if the pipe will hold.
Finally, I didn't know who was going to win. I could see either wrestler leaving with the title. Wrestling is so much more enjoyable when outcomes are unpredictable.
The Production These guys are the hottest thing in AIW. A title change is the next appropriate step. Magnum CK's facial expressions are priceless. At some point, he will strike out on his own. I hope the title reign lasts a while, it's going to make CK's singles run for meaningful.
Hot Sauce wins Tracy Williams has been an AIW regular for several years now. This title win is the culmination of the slow climb to the top. Just like Donst/Janela, I like the fact the outcome was not predictable. Gage was a very over champion so I could see him continuing to hold the belt. I could also see Joey Janela cashing in his JLIT title opportunity after the match. One minor distraction: I didn't like the fact that Gage tapped out to the crossface - I would have preferred a referee stoppage.
MISSES
AIW referees This is a miss for all three officials: Dave "The Potato" Dawson, Jake Clemons and Tom Dunn.
Dawson was the assigned official for the Donst/Janela ladder match yet Clemons and Dunn were at ringside as well. Why? So far this evening, there was a six-man match, an eight-man match and a ten-man match. It doesn't make sense to have all three at ringside for a one-on-one ladder match.
Turns out Clemons and Dunn set up tables and chairs and then cleaned them up after the wrestlers hit their spots. This doesn't make sense either. Dunn and Clemons are officials, that's not their job. They officiate matches, not get props from under the ring. At the very least, Dunn and Clemons should have taken off their referee shirts. Some alternatives: a couple of AIW students could be at ringside to assist, either wrestler could have a manager at ringside. Or how about this? have Donst and Janela set up their own props.
The referees were a huge distraction in an otherwise outstanding match.
